Gladstone Child Care has 3 Team Leaders, 6 Senior Practitioners and dedicated staff teams to ensure that our young people are at the centre of all we do. We are very proud of the care the young people receive, which is driven and underpinned by a positive culture and compassionate working environment. We view this as the most enduring and important aspect of our care.
A recognition that children and young people need to feel cared for, nurtured, safe and valued acts as the cornerstone of a child’s time at Gladstone Child Care. We all intuitively understand that no individual can properly grow, develop and reach their full potential if they do not feel safe and secure in their surroundings, and if they are not valued and cared for. Gladstone Child Care achieves this by first accepting our young people for who they are, and then giving them a sense of ownership and belonging. We act in a child-centred manner and offer unconditional positive support, which we believe allows our children and young people to begin to achieve socially, emotionally and academically.
At our recent inspection in May 2017, the Care Inspectorate noted in their report that “the very positive, supportive relationships built up between children/young people and the adults caring for them influenced positive outcomes for the children/young people”.
Strength In Teamwork
As a team, we work alongside the young people in respect of all aspects of their lives. One key strength within the organisation is their customised care plans. These are underpinned by our ethos of ‘Getting It Right for Every Child; placing the child or young person at the centre of the plan, and reviewing these every three months to ensure that they remain current and in line with the individual’s needs at that point in their life. An important and overwhelmingly successful element of the care plans is the ‘aspirations’ element whereby the individual child/young person sets out achievable goals they would like to aspire to, over the coming care plan period. These goals are attainable and offer a strong sense of achievement. They also enable the child/young person to have a key input into what it is they want to achieve, which helps build confidence and self-esteem.
